Nike, Now Recognizing the World of Upcycling Fashion

by Alyssia Holmes

Upcycling in the fashion industry is basically creatively using existing clothes and transforming them into something better and more inventive.  For instance, NyLaurent was commissioned by stylist Londyn Douglas to design upcycling pieces for an international campaign in North Korea.   We created upcycled shorts from old boy’s gym shorts, and pants that are half tear away and half slack pants found in the garbage.  These pieces are not just sustainable fashion, it’s an upcycled piece of art!
